OneNote is a digital notebook that lets customers track ideas and notes for home, school, or work, by typing, sketching, or voice, on the web, phone, tablet, or desktop. They can freely organize notes, switch devices and pick up where they left off, and collaborate on notes with others in real time.

How to take notes with OneNote in Windows 10

Use OneNote as a canvas where users can add and arrange their content. Microsoft Graph makes it easy to write apps that enable students to take notes and do research, families to share plans and ideas, or shoppers to share pictures. Your app can grab the information people want, send it to OneNote, and then help them organize it.

To make things easier, install the OneNote Web Clipper app/add-on/extension in your browser, then just clip helpful text, infographics, or images directly into your notes without having to leave the browser.

OneNote integrates and syncs with OneNote Mobile, Windows Sticky Notes, Microsoft Launcher for Android, Outlook for Windows, and even Samsung notes. So, notes you take on any of those apps are available in your OneNote Feed, making it easy to pull details into your notebooks.

One feature I don't cover is OneNote's Class Notebook tools. These capabilities are certainly education-focused, but they require coordination with the instructor. For more general note-taking advice, check out our tips for managing your notes. After all, other areas of your life can benefit from effective note-taking skills, too.

You can try enabling the Grid Line view for a precise visual guide. Know, however, that the edges of a text box do not align with the edge of the text; text boxes have a bit of padding. If a text box takes up too much vertical space, you need to delete the extra lines at the bottom of it, since there is no vertical resize handle.

As for broad organization tools, OneNote allows you to create custom tags for classifying notes. Click on the checkbox icon in the Home tab to get started. You can choose from existing tags such as To Do, Important, or Reminder for Later, or you can create a custom tag. Click anywhere within a text box to add a tag. When you go to search for that tag, you need to add quotes around it for OneNote to recognize it as such.

For most people, typing is the easiest way to take notes on a Surface device. On a Surface 3, Surface Pro 3 or Surface Pro 4, make sure you attach a Type Cover or, if using a Surface Book, ensure that the display is locked into the keyboard.

To start typing notes quickly on your Surface with Windows 10, swipe in from the right side of the Surface screen to open the Action Center and select OneNote. You can also tap the Windows icon to open the Start Menu, and then click OneNote.

Or if you own a Surface Pen, click its eraser button once to launch OneNote (even if your device is locked). Double-clicking the eraser button will take a screenshot of whatever is currently on your Surface screen, allowing you to make notes or draw on it.

Do you know that you do not have to purchase a retail copy of Office suite or pay for Office 365 subscription for you can take notes with OneNote? With this program, you can share your notes with other OneNote users over the Internet or a network. MiniTool shows you how to take notes with it in this article.

Then you should get a Get Started window if you have signed in with the Microsoft Account (You can also change the account to another if you want). This ensures your notes are saved to the cloud and can sync to all your other devices.

After reading the above content, you may have mastered how to take notes with OneNote and how to manage these notes. But do you know how to make some changes to OneNote pages? The following content shows you how to do that.

Microsoft OneNote can be incredibly helpful for keeping your notes organized and for saving paper! You can easily insert your PDF into a OneNote notebook and then make any notes on it that you want. You can even draw on your PDF if you have a touch screen or tablet with OneNote.

Whether you are a manager who takes meeting notes, a software developer providing notes, a sixth-grade teacher assigning collaborative class projects, or a parent preparing a shopping list, OneNote can make things easier for you.

OneNote functions as a note-taking app and a hub for all your notes. It allows you to organize notes into separate notebooks and sections within notebooks. You can pin multimedia documents to your notes as it is compatible with a wide range of digital formats.

OneNote allows you to quickly capture your ideas with drawing and handwriting. This feature is a time-saver when taking quick notes. You can capture complex ideas with a quick drawing and circle important things on a note.

The password-protect option in OneNote is designed to keep your private notes safe from prying eyes. So, whether you keep your school notes, work tasks, blog content, or personal information in OneNote, you can protect them and keep them private with passwords.

Todoist is a popular note taking app with a streamlined, easy to use interface. They roll out regular updates for new features even if you're on a free plan, making it an attractive option for most note takers.

Oftentimes text is not enough to get your point across. With OneNote, you can easily add text, images, audio, video and digital ink to any page. OneNote also uses an infinite canvas that lets you expand, at will, to add more notes as you need. Try that with a physical piece of paper.

Learning is messy and OneNote provides the free-form tools to help you (and your students) think through it. When we first learn something new, we do not yet have all the pieces required to make sense of a topic. We often collect and gather artifacts for learning (OneNote excels at this) but we must also process new learning by combining, re-combining, and assimilating new information. Before we can get to the polished, high-fidelity output a computer can produce, we must first struggle with basic conceptual understanding. Learning is about making meaning and thinking, not just transcribing notes with a keyboard.

Getting my notes into OneNote is one thing, but the true value of note-taking is being able to retrieve that information, at will, when and where you need it. With OneNote your notes are searchable. You can also tag your notes with ready-made tags, or create custom tags of your own to easily find specific notes. OneNote will even search the text within images (OCR) and within handwritten notes (if they are legible, that is).

With OneNote in the classroom, you are in control. If you want to scribble and doodle with digital ink, you can. If you want to keep a private notebook, you can. If you want to share a notebook with the world, you can. If you want to record an audio comment for one of your students, you can. If you want to handwrite a complicated mathematical equation, compose music, or sketch your latest invention with digital ink, you can do that too. If you want to embed an online video for a flipped learning lesson, go ahead. If you want to individualize instruction using Microsoft Forms and set up an auto-graded quiz as a check for understanding, you can. If you want to embed multimedia content like YouTube videos, do it. If you want to have your notes read back to your students using the new OneNote Learning Tools, you can.

In OneNote, you can easily store text and images in free-form documents, which you can keep private, or you can easily share the notes with other OneNote users over the internet or a network.

Microsoft OneNote is a note-taking software developed by Microsoft. It is available as part of the Microsoft Office suite and since 2014 has been free on all platforms outside the suite.[6] OneNote is designed for free-form information gathering and multi-user collaboration. Users can move pages within the binder and annotate them with a stylus or word-processing or drawing tools. Users may add embedded multimedia recordings and hyperlinks. They can also add embeddable content like YouTube videos.[9] OneNote also integrates search features and indexing into a free-form graphics and audio repository. It can search for images (e.g. screen captures, embedded document scans, photographs) for embedded text content. It also searches "electronic ink" annotations as text and phonetically searches audio recordings on a text key. It can replay audio concurrently with notes taken during the recording. It can also extract or copy texts from images and documents using Optical Character Recognition[10] 2ff7e9595c
